    Duplex Kidney; Heminephrectomy

Heminephrectomy; excision of part of the kidney. I have previously written about my daughters medical condition, her duplex kidney and how she would need surgery (heminephrectomy). I thought I would write an update as to how the surgery and recovery went. Overview During my first pregnancy at our 20 week scan all I kept thinking was is it a boy or a girl. Duplex and Horseshoe Kidney

We knew even before our daughter was born that she had duplex kidneys. We knew during my second pregnancy that my son was suspected of having duplex kidneys also.   What is duplex kidney? Simply put the kidneys have duplicated but not seperated, so she has a right kidney but her left kidney is duplex. This is to prevent infection. Her dosage has to be increased regularly as she gains weight. This means a lot of doctor…

    Duplex Kidney

At our 20 week scan we discovered our baby girl has a left duplex kidney. This simply means that she has a double kidney. However because of this she is more prone to urinary tract infections therefore she has been on antibiotics since she was born to prevent this. We have attended numerous outpatient hospital appointments, meetings, scans, ultrasounds and dmsa scans. We were extremely concerned about what this would mean for our daughters health in the future. I researched or more to the point tried to research more about this condition, however I was surprised to find there is very little information out there especially on treatments etc. This…
