Our New Howdens Kitchen!

Having lived in our home just over 6 years, we decided it was time to think about replacing our very outdated kitchen. The kitchen had grey pebbledash worktops, dark wood cupboards and awful brown vinyl tiles on the floor. Plus it was falling apart and the shelves were bowing.

We spoke to one of the local mums from the kids school who recommended Howdens Kitchens and passed on the details of a local trader. We made an appointment and they came around to measure up and book us in for a design appointment.

Design Appointment

At the appointment we were able to see our current kitchen on a big screen where we were then able to start to look at new designs. Now I wanted sleek slim high gloss units, whilst my husband preferred the country look shaker styles. When we saw our designs on the screen we both opted for the Glendevon Grey High Gloss units. The finishing touches were the copper handles and a new oven and hob. The total price was very reasonable indeed, in fact it was a fair bit less than we had imagined it would cost so we were very happy. Our kitchen fitter came recommended from Howdens and estimated a 4-5 day turnaround for completion.

Preparing

We naively thought oh we’ll empty our kitchen a few days before fitting is due to start. Thankfully we started on the Friday and it then became apparent at just how much crap we had in our units! So a good clear out was in order! Our living room now looked like a jumble sale was taking place complete with its very own tea and coffee station! Having two little ones running around in the 6 week holidays we knew it wouldn’t be easy to entertain or feed them while the work was being carried out.

Luckily I love my slow cooker so we prepared a chicken casserole in this as our oven would be out of action for a good while. This stretched to 4 meals. My mother in law very kindly brought us a dinner down too. It was about 3 days in when we then became reliant on our microwave and also the café over the road! Any excuse for a treat!

Kitchen Fitting

Our kitchen fitter, Nathan from Impact Carpentry, couldn’t have done enough for us. He worked from early morning until late at night.

He worked to a very high standard and is quite a perfectionist! He noticed and thought of things that we had not. For example switching our current white plug sockets to chrome, and boxing in pipes. He single headedly fitted our kitchen units, oven, flooring and tiles.

The New Kitchen!

Here is the finished result! What a difference it has made, our kitchen looks so much bigger and has much more storage room now.
