Grace Foods, the UK’s largest Caribbean food and drink company challenged a number of bloggers with a passion for cooking to design the ultimate street party spread for Caribbean Food Week 2017, August 21st-28th.
Organised by Grace Foods UK, and now its in sixth year, the week is designed to educate enthusiastic home cooks on the joys of cooking Caribbean, and in turn get cooking authentic cuisine in your own home.
I received a hamper of Grace Foods products which included goodies such as;
- Spicy Jerk Chicken mix
- Hot Sauce
- Coconut Milk
- Jerk Seasoning
- Jamaican Ackee
- Peas and Beans
- Mild Curry Powder
- Ginger beer
- Aloe Vera Drink
I set about creating a spread using salmon and chicken. I coated some of the chicken with the spicy jerk chicken mix and frying and the rest of the chicken in the jerk seasoning I also added in some of the curry powder for extra flavour. With the Salmon I used some of our own lemon peri peri sauce and accompanied this with the Jamaican ackee.
Served alongside vegetable rice, peas and beans, ginger beer and coconut water.
I have to admit I wasn’t a fan of the Ackee it does have quite a strong flavour, but my husband enjoyed it so finished mine too!
All of the ingredients are bursting with flavour and they really are so easy to use and add into most recipes. We didn’t use the hot sauce as it was too hot for us but we did really enjoy the jerk seasoning on the chicken it was very tasty indeed!
Demand for Caribbean flavours is at an all time high, as people become more adventurous with their cooking and look for new taste experiences, why not try creating your own party spread for Caribbean Food Week
