Singer Pink and her family have been shamed for sharing aphoto of their son who currently has hand, foot and mouth disease. They shared the snap captioned “Wanna know how glamorous tour can be? Jameson has hand, foot and mouth, and willow has a 102 temp. both kids laid up and mama still has to push through and do shows..”
While at breakfast with her son, a woman on a nearby table kept staring at him, and even their followers commented on the Instagram photo shaming them for not taking better precautions.
Why is it that parents and even those without children for that matter feel it necessary to comment without thought on these situations? Why do people feel the need to shame other parents? Aren’t we all doing the same job, bringing our children up in the best way we feel possible.
Of course we don’t all parent the same, but that is not a reason to judge others. Children get sick, children get better it’s all part of growing up. Would they have shamed them if it was chicken pox, I doubt it. Maybe it is because hand, foot and mouth isn’t really that well known and people jump to conclusions.
I have previously written about when my daughter had hand, foot and mouth. It is a very contagious disease and spreads easily and quickly and there are no real precautions that can be taken to avoid catching it. It is a viral infection and therefore doesn’t require antibiotics, it will pass with time usually 5-10 days. You can’t keep your child a recluse for this period and trips to the store etc. are hard to avoid, but it is advised not to attend any playgroups while your child has hand, foot and mouth.
Irrespective of whether people agree or not with Pink sharing this in the public domain, aren’t parents supposed to support each other?
