Barry Sidings Country Park

Barry Sidings Country Park near Trehafod in Pontypridd is one of our favourite places to take the children too. It’s perfect on a summers day as well as autumn walks.

You could easily spend the day there, it is much more than just a park.

You have the recently refurbished Barry Sidings café, which serves hot food daily. The food is absolutely stunning and so tasty, my favourite is the chicken burger and the cheesy chips! They also serve freakshakes which are so naughty but yummy!

From the café you can also hire bikes for the whole family. At Barry Sidings you will find bike tracks, including childrens; you can hire balance bikes too. There is also the forestry which offers amazing views over the valleys.

Barry Sidings Country park is also dog friendly including the café! You’ll regularly find a bowl of water outside for the pups.

One of the main attractions here is the lake, you can quite often see heron fishing here too! In front of the café is a small stream with a little bridge over it, and our children’s favourite thing to do is sit here and throw rocks in, or float sticks under the bridge and watch them come out the other side.

There is also a large park for the children to enjoy, their favourite is the swings!

In the grassy areas you can also find bbq areas and picnic benches. Behind the café there is a larger field, perfect for playing football.

Just down the road from Barry Sidings you will also find the Rhondda Heritage Mining Museum, this is also well worth a visit. You can take a tour to relive what the miners did and it also boats a fantastic sandy park with zip wire and the new Bracchi café.
