Budgeting Your Christmas Food

This year is the first year that I will be cooking Christmas dinner! And I have to say I’m a little bit nervous.

Usually we would go to a family members house for dinner or last year my sister in law actually cooked us dinner and brought it down to us. This year however it’s all down to me. 
I have been researching different ways for preparing how to do Christmas dinner on a budget. Here are a few ideas!

 Co-Op Christmas dinner in a box – yes this is actually real. I saw it advertised yesterday. It costs only £12 and is ready in just 50 minutes! It includes a British turkey breast joint covered in smoked streaky bacon, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, gravy and cranberry compote. All you need to add is the vegetables! It states it can serve 2.

Morrisons Christmas Savers Stamps – I have only just discovered this. You can buy stamps for £1 which you can save up all year in a little booklet and when you’re ready to do your Christmas shop you simply use your stamps to pay. I have already started collecting for next year, granted only a few pounds at the moment, but if you’re popping in to buy a few bits or just passing I’ll stop and pick some up. Plus if you don’t use all of your vouchers you get your money back.

Make your food last longer - Boxing Day leftovers – don’t let anything go to waste. Turkey sandwiches, veggie bubble and squeak, maybe you even have enough left over for a second Christmas dinner!

Bring a plate - If you’re having a few people over for dinner why not suggest they each bring a plate. That way you’ll have a delicious variety of food on offer for a fraction of the cost.

Buy as you go – instead of waiting to purchase all of your Christmas goodies at once, why not buy throughout the year. You can usually find reduced items such as Christmas crackers, table runners in the January sales. You can also stock up on freezer food and cupboard items such as pickles and tins. Just make sure you keep a list of what you already have.
