Our Week So Far...

I'm not usually one for writing these kinds of posts, but this week has been a bit of a game changer for me. I can sometimes suffer with anxiety and this normally shows itself when I'm out with my children, although usually my husband is with me.

My daughter is 4 and my son is 3, and sad to say I rarely take them anywhere on my own. I have honestly been too scared. My usual excuses are my youngest doesn't listen, they don't stay together, what if one runs off I'll have to leave the other to chase them back.

We'll I don't know why or where my confidence came from this week, but I decided to brave it!

Starting with small steps I took them only over the road to the park. Okay sounds easy enough, but I normally drive to a park down the road as it is enclosed so they cant run off.

This park I went to this time though is much more open and busy. I was scared I wouldn't be able to cope on my own with them, or that people would stop and stare. I was wrong.

We had the best time, and we stayed for well over an hour. My children surprised me. They didn't run off. In fact when they couldn't see me, they panicked and searched for me, I called them over and they were fine. They stayed together, they listened and I felt calm!

The next day was a bigger challenge. I decided that as they had been so good at the park and as I had managed quite well, I would take them to the farm.

Again they were brilliant, very well behaved and it was actually very easy! We had an amazing time!

Today then I took them to the local museum for an Easter egg hunt where they also had rides and other activities. It was such great fun.

I've been left feeling a lot less stressed, happier that the children are happier and also a little sad at the time I have lost when I could have taken them somewhere but I didn't because I was scared.

My advice, and I'm no expert. For anyone who suffers from anxiety start with baby steps, see how it goes and then take it to the next level.

We've had such a fantastic week and I really looking forward to a lot more adventures in the future!

  1. I loved reading this! I'm so glad this week has given you more confidence in taking them out. You're an awesome mummy. Baby steps, I agree with. I remember the first time I braved the City Centre on my own with the twins. I was just starting to wean them and drove into town, parked the car, walked to Debenhams, gave them a jar of baby food each, let them nap in the pushchair and wandered around for an hour. Gave me so much confidence! I think getting over that first hurdle is the scariest, bit after that it gets easier x
