4  Tips That Will Help Prevent Your Kids From Vaping.

If statistics are anything to go by, adults and more and more teens and adolescents are trying e-cigarettes. Even though this may seem troublesome, the good news is that the increase in e-cigarette use has led to a decrease in the number of smoking teens.

A CDC report has shown that smoking among teens is down to 9.2 percent. This is the lowest it has been in decades. While e cig use is on the rise among the younger population, it is also gaining popularity with adults.

This means that the increase in the number of e-cig use among the younger population is a reflection of what goes on in our society. If more adults are vaping, there will be more kids vaping too. Considering this, no one out there wants children to start vaping as this could lead to a lifelong addiction to nicotine.

Even though there is a lot of debate regarding the fact that e-cigarettes are a gateway for children to a long-term nicotine addiction, there is very little debate on whether kids should be vaping or not.

Whether you are an e-cigarette advocate or an opponent, you will agree with me that vaping is not something for children and that we do not want our youth to become victims of such troublesome habits.

The tips below will help you educate your kids on vaping and ensure that you save them from this troublesome habit.

1. Talk to your kids

Communication can help prevent and solve many problems. However, what we fail to do is to talk to our children about vaping because it is something that has become more popular recently. Don't just tell your kids about alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes, remember to tell them something about e-cigarettes.

Inform them in the same way that you would do with any substance they are curious about. They need to know about addiction and how nicotine can negatively affect their health. Share your experiences and help them understand how e-cigarettes are used.

2. Keep the devices and E-liquids away from the reach of children

It is very important to ensure that your e-cigarette devices are not accessible to children. You have to ensure that your e-cigarette accessories and e-liquids are stored in a designated and safe area. This will keep your children safe as the risk of drinking or swallowing e-liquid will be avoided. Your children need to know that the e-liquids are not edible and are off limits as well.

3. Never glamorize vaping

Let's face it, we live in a culture driven by gadgets and vaping is a good example of this. With the variety of different personalization and modifications, general shiny exterior and various accessories, you have to admit that e-cigarettes can look pretty fun and cool.

Inform your kids that vaping is not something glamorous or something cool. You have to be honest with them and tell them the reason why you have decided to vape in the first place.

Most people usually vape to cut down or cut out cigarette smoking from their lives. Let them know that it is really a struggle dealing with nicotine addiction and not something they should take on.

4. Track online activity

One of the major claims among those against e-cigarettes is that it is very easy for teens to buy e-cigarettes online. And honestly, that might have some truth to it. 42 states have enacted laws banning the sale of vaping products to minors. This has made it harder for teens to buy them in stores.

Now, most of the reputable sites have some sort of safeguard in place to curtail the sale of e-cigs to minors even in states that do not have regulations. FDA regulations will soon bring about a nationwide restriction that will outlaw the sale of e-cigs to minors.

However, this will not prevent international sites from allowing sales to teens and adolescents. This is why it is very important that parents practice some form of online monitoring or security to ensure that your children are safe on the internet and that they are not buying any products they should not buy.

A parent's number one job is to keep his or her children safe. Especially for those who have struggled or struggling with a nicotine addiction, the last thing you want to see your child do is struggle with an addiction. Communication will be a very important factor that will help your children make informed decisions. Be honest with them and share what you believe so that they can make the best decisions.
