Birth Story Feature #4 Emily

Today's birth story feature is from Emily at www.twinmummyanddaddy.com

How old were you when you had your baby/babies?
25

How many weeks were you when you found out you were expecting?
From memory it was very early on. Around 3 weeks I think. We had ICSI so had lots of scans during treatment and afterwards too.

How did your anomaly scan go?
Perfectly. We were a bit concerned beforehand because we'd been told at our previous scans that twin two was on the small side, but there was nothing to worry about.

Did you find out the sex of your baby?
Yes! We wanted to know! Two girls! I don't think I could have gone the whole pregnancy not knowing!

Was your baby born on its due date?
They were six weeks early. Twin two hadn't grown for a while so our consultant decided that they needed to be born.
They were born at 34 weeks weighing 4lb3 and 2lb11.

Did you stick to you birth plan? (If you had one)
I didn't have one, but imagine if I did it would have gone out of the window!

What pain relief if any did you have?
As I had a caesarean I had a spinal.

How was your labour?
The caesarean went well. I was really nervous walking into theatre, but everything went as it should. I was surprised how quick it was!

How old are your babies now?
Three years old!

What have been your most challenging parental experiences?
The first month was pretty challenging as the girls were in special care. Leaving them was hard, as I just wanted to bring them home with me.
As they've gotten older, their tantrums have been difficult to deal with, but we've learnt what works to calm them quickly!

Do you have any advice for new parents?
Don't have lots of visitors to start with! Wait a day or two and spend that time bonding and learning all about your baby.

What are your best baby buys?
Angelcare movement monitors. They offer great reassurance and peace of mind.

Do you plan on having any more children?
No. R and M are my everything!
